ASVAB / AFQT score explorer

Short answer

Your AFQT is a percentile from 1 to 99 computed from four ASVAB subtests (Arithmetic Reasoning, Mathematics Knowledge, and Verbal Expression = Word Knowledge + Paragraph Comprehension, counted twice). An AFQT of 65 means you scored at or above 65% of a national sample of 18–23-year-olds and places you in Category II (65–92). Standard scores on each subtest have a mean of 50 and a standard deviation of 10.

How this works

The category table and the definition of the percentile come from officialasvab.com/applicants/scores. The tool deliberately does not convert "questions right" into an AFQT: the official conversion uses item-response-theory scoring and norming tables that are not public, so any raw-score calculator on the web is a guess. Enlistment minimums are set by each service and change; we link to the services rather than restate numbers.

Worked examples

AFQT 49 → Category IIIB (31–49): at or above 49% of the reference group. AFQT 93 → Category I (top 7%). Standard scores AR 58, MK 61, PC 47, WK 45 → the verbal pair is below the mean while math is above it; since VE counts twice in the AFQT, the verbal gap is the cheaper one to close.
